National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for our area this weekend (July 24-26, 2010). Temperatures expected to reach 110°F+ with little overnight cooling.
Hello Miller County residents,
With the extreme heat expected this weekend, we want to make sure everyone in our community stays safe and healthy. Here are some important safety reminders:
Stay Hydrated:
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration
- If you're working outside, drink water every 15-20 minutes
Stay Cool:
- Limit outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
- Use air conditioning if available, or visit public cooling centers
- Never leave children, elderly, or pets in parked vehicles
Check on Neighbors:
- Elderly residents and those with health conditions are most at risk
- Offer to help neighbors with errands during cooler hours
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, nausea, headache
Emergency: If someone shows signs of heat stroke (high body temperature, altered mental state, hot/dry skin), call 911 immediately.
