Hi everyone! My husband and I are considering moving to Miller County with our two kids (ages 7 and 10). The schools are really important to us and I'd love to hear from local parents about their experiences.

Specific questions:

  • How are Highland Elementary and Miller County Middle School?
  • What's the teacher-to-student ratio like?
  • Are there good after-school programs?
  • How involved are parents in school activities?
  • Any concerns we should know about?

We're coming from a larger district and are hoping for a more close-knit community feel. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello! I'm the principal at Highland Elementary and I'd be happy to answer your questions.

Highland Elementary Quick Facts:

  • Student enrollment: 287 students (K-5)
  • Average class size: 18-22 students
  • 12 full-time teachers, plus specialists
  • Strong parent volunteer program
  • After-school care until 6 PM available

We pride ourselves on knowing every student by name and maintaining close relationships with families. Our PTA is very active and we have strong community support.

Feel free to contact the office at (909) 555-0234 to schedule a tour!

We moved here from Orange County two years ago and couldn't be happier with the schools!

My oldest goes to Miller County Middle School and my two younger ones are at Highland Elementary. Here's my honest experience:

The Good:

  • Teachers really care and know all the kids personally
  • Small class sizes mean more individual attention
  • Very safe environment - everyone looks out for each other
  • Strong arts and music programs despite being a smaller district

Things to Consider:

  • Fewer extracurricular options than larger districts
  • Sometimes they need parent volunteers to make things happen
  • High school students bus to San Bernardino area for some advanced courses

Overall, we love the community feel. The kids are happy and thriving!

As a teacher in the district, I can tell you that we have wonderful students and very supportive families.

One thing that makes us special is our multi-age collaboration. Since we're smaller, students from different grades often work together on projects and the older kids really help mentor the younger ones.

We also have strong partnerships with local businesses and organizations. The Sheriff's Department does safety programs, local business owners come speak to classes, and we take frequent field trips within Miller County.

The parent involvement here is fantastic - much higher than the state average. When you become part of our school family, you'll find lots of ways to get involved!

Thank you all SO much for the detailed responses! This is exactly the kind of community involvement and caring we were hoping to find.

We're definitely moving forward with Miller County. My husband and I visited the schools this week and were really impressed. Principal Johnson gave us a wonderful tour, and we met several teachers.

The kids are excited to start fresh in a smaller community where they can really get involved. Looking forward to being part of the Miller County family!

I'll probably have more questions as we get closer to moving - thanks for being so welcoming!
