🚧 CONSTRUCTION ALERT

Highway 18 eastbound will have lane restrictions June 21-August 15, 2010

Dear Miller County residents,

We wanted to give everyone advance notice about upcoming road construction that will affect travel on Highway 18, our main route to San Bernardino.

Project Details:

  • Location: Highway 18 eastbound, mile markers 47-52
  • Dates: June 21 - August 15, 2010
  • Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Impact: Reduced to one lane, expect 15-20 minute delays

Alternate Routes:

  • Highway 138 south to I-15 (adds about 25 minutes)
  • Forest Service Road 2N47 (CURRENTLY CLOSED for safety assessment)
  • Plan extra travel time for work commutes

This project will resurface and improve drainage on this heavily-traveled section. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Thanks for the heads up! This is going to make my commute to San Bernardino really rough.

Any chance the work could be done at night to reduce impact on commuters? 6 AM - 6 PM is basically the entire workday.

Also, when will Forest Service Road 2N47 reopen? That would be a much better alternate route than going all the way around on Highway 138.

This is going to hurt local businesses. A lot of our customers come from San Bernardino County and they might not want to deal with the delays.

Is there any way we can get signs posted on the San Bernardino side letting people know about alternate routes or that Miller County businesses are still open and accessible?

We need that tourist and visitor traffic, especially during summer months.

Great questions from both of you!

@CommuterDad: Unfortunately, night work would be much more expensive and this project is already stretching our budget. However, we're trying to minimize delays by having crews work efficiently.

Regarding Forest Service Road 2N47 - that's under county and forest service jurisdiction. We don't have a reopening date yet due to ongoing safety assessments.

@LocalBusinessOwner: Excellent point! We'll contact CalTrans about posting signs. We're also working with the Chamber of Commerce on messaging that local businesses remain open and accessible.

Thanks for your patience, everyone!
